How to perform Maha Rudrabhishek?
- Before the beginning of the maha rudrabhishek pooja, Asanas are prepared for the God and Goddess including the Navagrahas and other Deities. The priest performs the Swasti Vachan to seek the blessings for the devotee and the ghee lamp is lightened. All the Gods and Goddesses are prayed using the recitals during Shanti Path. A sankalpa is also taken by the priest on behalf of the devotee and thereafter all the rituals are performed.
- The pooja is performed for Lords of all 10 directions, Bhumi (Earth), Devi Ganga, Lord Ganesha, Lord Surya, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Agni, Lord Brahma and all the nine planets.
- The Homan is performed in which Lord Agni is invoked using the holy woods and a paste that is made of Mustard Seeds, Ghee, Sesame seeds etc. After this Purnahuti is performed in which Coconut filled with Ghee and other items are offered to the Agni Dev.
- After this a pooja is performed for all the nine planets which is followed by some other rituals. And towards the end, all the priests who have taken part in this pooja are offered food which is followed by Dakshina. It includes Clothes, fresh fruits and money.
Materials required for Maha Rudrabhishek
While performing maha rudrabhishek pooja the Shiva Linga should face in the North direction. And the devotee should be facing towards the east in respect to the shiv linga.The devotee should sit in a particular asana while performing the Maha Rudra Abhishekam Puja preferably on the wool asan. The materials required in this pooja are unboiled milk,mixture of water along with Gangajal, fruit juice, Sugarcane juice, and the coconut water. This pooja also requires Panchamrit which is considered to be the mixture of main 5 materials they are cow milk (unboiled), sugar, honey, curd and honey. The materials which are used for the offering purpose are clothes , flowers , fruits, betel nut, coconut .
Where to perform Maha Rudrabhishek?
One can perform maha rudrabhishek pooja in any of the Lord Shiva temple. It can be performed at Omkareshwar temple in Indore, Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, Somnath temple in Gujarat, Nageshwar temple in Gujarat, Trimbakeshwar in Nashik and other places. It can also be performed at Baidyanath, Kashi and Rameshwaram. It is advised to consult the expert and accordingly the place and time can be decided for the pooja.
Cost of performing Maha Rudrabhishek
The normal cost of the Maha Rudrabhishek pooja ranges from Rs. 3000 to Rs. 5000. But depending upon type of pooja ie.12 Rudrabhisheka, Ekadasa Rudrabhishekam Pooja or Maha-Rudram Yagya, this pooja can cost between Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 18,000. It also depends upon the number of priests taking part and the total time that is spent by them.
